Join Alex on a stroll through Chinatown and Little Italy, where we’ll discuss 400 years of immigration in America. We’ll also talk about the early history of Manhattan, and learn how these neighborhoods developed over time. We’ll pay particular attention to the city’s past and present day demographics, with an emphasis on our favorite topic, ethnic succession!
In between all the information and anecdotes, we'll visit several local businesses. You'll go inside a traditional Chinese Wet Market, an enormous Chinese Food Court, a classic Italian Deli, and New York City's oldest Italian Bakery! You’ll have plenty of opportunities to stock up on items like chop sticks, frozen fish cakes, and imported olive oils during the tour!
Along the way we'll stop frequently and allow everyone to engage and ask questions. Tours are casual, flexible, and fun, so bring your curiosity and a comfortable pair of walking shoes!
This tour is perfect for individuals, couples, families, or anyone looking to experience New York City’s food, culture, and history in a new way!

“I did the Chinatown and Little Italy tour with my parents while they were visiting from overseas and had a wonderful time. Alex really knows his history and we made sure to put his knowledge to the test with a solid battery of questions about food, the surrounding neighborhoods, and the architecture. He was an amazing guide, and we really thoroughly enjoyed our time. We had a major hankering for soup dumplings and Joe's Shanghai didn't disappoint! Then we moved on for some antipasto and desert in Little Italy. Highly recommend the tour if you have friends and family coming, or just to learn a bit more about the neighborhoods and enjoy some delicious local cuisine.” - Brian Ecclefield, Founder of Validated Claim Support, Greater New York City Area
“Alex was an engaging tour guide! We visited Chinatown and Little Italy. A combination of food, history, and some other unusual facts. What’s better than a 3 hour stroll eating, chatting, and learning about the history and culture of an area.” - Colin Harper, Police Officer in the UK
“Alex led us on a delicious tour of Chinatown and Little Italy, peppered with fascinating facts and stories about historic NYC. There is so much to see, learn, and taste! Always interesting - you don't even notice how much you've walked because you can't wait for the next juicy tidbit (whether food or history). Can't wait to go on another tour with Alex!!” - Sara Poor, Director of Medieval Studies at Princeton University
